Guess what, I really want to
go back there, it was a pure
magic. Those treks in the
mountain, and that festival,
just great...

A fabulous trip, I would say
it was the best trip I have
had and i have traveled
fairly extensively. I will
definitely tell others .....
I was very impressed with
the amount of information
we received about the areas
we traveled and the experience
we had.

I enjoyed the added company
- Gautom is great, Nawang,
Ani's, villager were very
caring accepting and genuine.
I have truly enjoyed it all! ...
Everything was more than expected,
but perhaps the highlight was the
stay in Ani Gompa and village near
Tawang, I can't imagine why I
balked at first.

Half the fun of the travel is the esthetic of lost ness.  ~Ray Bradbury

Cultural Pursuits is a small family run business, Valariena Perry Syiemlieh is a Khasi married to James Murray Perry a Canadian who just so happened to be born in Shillong, Meghalaya.  We have 3 sons growing up around our somewhat unique and adventurous lifestyle. See some more about us at .

Cultural Pursuits has been offering customized trips in North East India for the past 10 years - we have developed a reputation for unique travel ready to do and try almost anything no matter how rough -  recommendations. If you can imagine it we likely are willing to do it, as long as it is within our philosophy and our goals in travel - based on North East Sustainable Network standards.

Often neglected in discussions of India, the Seven States of North - East India, (otherwise known as the Seven Sisters) offers a unique experience to the traveler. The mainly tribal people of the North-East have long been neglected politically and economically by the Indian Central Government, but have survived with strong feelings of independence. The area offers diversity in culture, language, art, climate and environment, so much so that one is often amazed at the difference between regions just a few kilometres apart.

Most of the North East has now been made accessible to travelers, however it is still with a certain degree of difficulty making it a low volume tourist destination.  This makes it an ideal spot for those who want to get away from all the touristy spots.

Cultural Pursuits  offers you a glimpse of this unique part of India.

Our philosophy is to enhance and promote the cultural diversity of North-East India in a culturally and environmentally friendly manner.

Five star hotels are not in the itinerary. We will be staying in clean and sanitary guest houses and hotels in cities and accommodation in the villages will be in village homes or camping. We do our best to fit the trip that fits your budget.

The area is made up of many different tribes and languages and the background knowledge of our guides is invaluable. We will travel from the Assam Plains, where the mighty Bramaputra river dictates much of the people's life, to tropical rainforest rich in flora and fauna.

Experiences will range from the famous Tea Gardens of Assam to sighting of the rare One-Horned Rhinoceros in Kaziranga,. Treks through the Jungles of the Garo, Khasi, Naga, Aruanachal and other  Hills of the North East.  Or Stay in a village home and enjoy the tranquility of travel with no set time limits - for often the best experiences just happen
