FEBRUARY:  A slow month, so spent some time with my boys and doing many things I have left for some time.  End of February and March is busy again - look forward to News at beginning of April.

RYDIN AND MURRAY

Feb - March and April is Khasi Dance Time throughout villages - just have to find a village that is having one -

A First:  In January we went to a village in Nagaland Konyak area, near to the Burma border, here after long discussions with the Ang (chief) about digging up some skulls  - buried because "missionaries, had told them that it was a sin to keep on display."   For me it is a part of their history and should be displayed.  the act of killing may not be right, but nobody can take away from fact and hide it underground.  A dignified and appropriate display of the past should be a corner stone of the good that can and shall be done in the future.   The Nagas were no doubt 'head hunters' and to hide it is a sin.  The ultimate sin is seeing what goes on in the present and not doing something about it.  In our own limited capacity 'change can only happen if thoughts and dreams are made into reality. - the event went well, the skulls were underground in a known place (each village has a location or locations that they were buried.

A clump of bamboos grew above them, so the roots were intertwined in the skulls making it more difficult to take out.  We did not take out many, as time would not allow, the Ang will remove more and put them on display for April 2008 during the annual Aoleang festival of the Konyaks.  There is opposition from the church and other villagers but hopefully if we can develop some positive aspect from it we will show them the results with action.  Our goal, mine, a friend of mine and the Ang is to work together to set up a 3 day trip for people who come to Aoleang in April taking them to one village on the Burma border by vehicle from Mon (Longwa) then a 3 hour hike to this village to see the display - then back to Mon.  this with all food and some local dances included.  Hopefully it works out.
